Save it in your H Drive as 5 Concept notes
You will need these since the PPT won't be available later
DO NOT print these
5 Concepts/Questions Project
You must pick 1 magazine ad (from the magazines in the cabinet) and answer all 5 questions to Media Literacy. You can use the concepts as your guide as well. If the ad you selected cannot answer all the questions, you will need to select a new ad. You will need to tear out the ad and attach your explanations to it. I will provide lined paper and markers so make it look good
All work should be done at the tables and not at the computers. Clean up anything you get out.
Example:
Ad for the New Pringles Stix featuring a woman with her tongue out, holding a Pringles Stix.
Who created this message? This message was created by the makers of Pringles (P&G)
What techniques were used to attract attention? There is a goofy lady with her tongue out in the ad. Also, all the boxes for the new Pringles Stix are showing. The ad says "Pringles Stix, so delicious you mouth will be strangely attracted to them" and it shows the tongue trying to get the stix.
How might different people understand this message differently? I love Pringles so I am not sure if I want to try somethong that is different. I might because I love Pringles. Someone who hates Pringles might be turned off by it already. The ad also says that it is a 90 calorie snack so maybe if someone was worried about calories this would be great for them!
What values, lifestyles, and points of view are represented or omitted from this message? This is another snack that is low calorie and trying to be healthy. Pringles are not thought of as a super healthy snack so in keeping with the times it seems they are trying to create something more healthy. It is trying to get everyone who eats snacks to try this product. It does not deal with people who are looking for an organic or all natural choice.
Why was this created? It was created to sell Pringles Stix!
